Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Accurately follow specifications outlined in proposed projects to ensure that the overall production goal is achieved in the end
Be present for consultation with clients for an in-depth discussion of what the job at hand involves
Create new designs and forward them to the project manager or manufacturer for evaluation. In doing this, he/she will stick to the acceptable standards of engineering designs
Participates in a team environment on assigned projects executing process engineering deliverables
Participates in the development of projects from conception through detailed design, including, in some cases, commissioning and startup assistance in the field
Participates in design efforts including establishing process design basis, development of process options, and optimization of selected designs
May assist to complete Material and Energy Balances of processes and unit operations
Completes design calculations such as; pump hydraulics, line sizing, heat duty, and relief devices
Aids in the development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) including instrumentation and control considerations
Supports the development of General Arrangement Layout drawings
Effectively communicates with the project team and the client
Consider the safety of clients, manufacturers and workers by taking safety precautions and avoiding ideas that could endanger lives
Ensure that all designs are not complicated but easy to understand by clients, manufacturers and installers for easy interpretation even in their absence
Monitor the step by step progress of the project and make a detailed report of observation which will be submitted to the project supervisor to determine if the project conforms to the initial design provided
Evaluate designs to spot loopholes, and fine-tune them to enhance their final outlook.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills and abilities)
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required.
2 years relevant experience in plant design/maintenance experience in Wood Products, Pulp & Paper or other Steam/Thermal Oil Using Industries with a focus on one or more of the following:
Plant and Process Level Heat & Material Balances
Major Plant Process Equipment Design, Specification & Operation
Major Plant Emissions Equipment Design, Specification & Operation
Major Plant Equipment Installation and Commissioning
Thermodynamic Modeling Experience
Ability to engage in multiple tasks at a time without losing concentration
Good temperament to deal with people in all situations
Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, manufacturers and workers
Ability to maintain focus in the midst of distractions that could arise during productions
Must be able to follow instructions to the minutest detail to ensure accuracy.
Ability to generate and present engineering review presentations to both small and large group
Advanced knowledge in MS Office. (SolidWorks or AutoCAD software experience preferable)
Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.
Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
Should be familiar with and have performed training in client’s plant safety programs.
Possess strong interpersonal skills
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Able to work effectively with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors and customers.
